Ocean's Trilogy; the Ultimate Casino Flick
There are millions and gazillions of casino movies out there. How can you possibly determine which ones are qualitatively good and are actually are worth watching. There are many titles out there which instantly promise a full blown casino setting, guns and goons. There is one movie though that approached the casino genre a little bit differently.
Ocean's Eleven came out in the year 2001 and was an instant hit. Indeed a big factor of the movies success is admittedly the star-studded cast, which included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and Andy Garcia. The movie tells the story of con man Danny Ocean who forms a group of eleven, which explains the title, and sets out to plan a master theft. This plan has been carefully crafted in order to rob the biggest casino in Las Vegas. Danny's plan succeeds and they were able to steal millions of dollars straight out of the bank vault of the grand casino hotel. This casino movie promises deception as its best and proves that a casino vault can be cracked.
The installment of this casino movie trilogy is called Ocean's Twelve. Twelve, because Danny Ocean recruits another member to join him and the group, in order to pursue the next great coup. This time the casino owner they previously robbed wants his money back and again the group has to rob banks and galleries and casinos. The sequel unfortunately got bad ratings, and what do you do when ratings are bad for a casino movie? The answer is; make another one.
So this is how Ocean's Thirteen came about. The third installation in the casino movie Ocean's Eleven. In this casino movie, the group wants a casino owner to lose his casino ratings and his money. They achieve this through deceptions and sabotage. The con men of Ocean's Thirteen place little contraptions all over the casino, to make the bank lose all the time and create an artificial earthquake so that the casino has to evacuate and the bank will not have the chance to win the money back. In this casino movie the setting is our ol' favorite Las Vegas. The overall ratings for Ocean's Thirteen are very good and brought back the flair and success of the first movie.
The Ocean's trilogy has definitely changed and defined the future of casino movies and casinos in general. Maybe now the casinos will think about more security against people like Danny Ocean that are being portrayed in casino movies. The Ocean's trilogy definitely promises a good time in front of your big screen.
