Harrahs Join Keppel on Sentosa Casino Bid
Harrah's Entertainment Inc. had teamed up with Singapore's Keppel Land Ltd. on the bid for Singapore's second largest casino license.
There was uncertainty over the joint bid because it was thought that they had parted ways with their chief architect Jon Jerde, who was supposed to be the head designed for the Sentosa Casino.
But a joint statement was released by the Monday July 31 deadline saying that the two would be developing a proposal for an integrated resort at Sentosa Island.
Harrah's said that it would join Keppel to "develop a proposal in response to the Singapore Tourism Board's request." The next statement that they wold be releasing about the project would be in time with the Oct. 10 submission date.
Shares in Harrah's rose 2 cents to close at $60.11 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Casino gaming was legalized last year in Singapore, and the city-state said that it will allow casinos to be built on two sites.
Harrah's lost the first bid, a site at Marina Bay near the financial district to the Las Vegas Sands Corp.
Three other teams also made a bid by Monday's deadline: Las Vegas casino resort developer Eighth Wonder Asia; a joint venture between Malaysia's Genting International PLC and Star Cruises Ltd.; and a joint venture between Kerzner International Ltd. and Singapore's CapitaLand Ltd.
